Marin Transit operates local bus services in Marin County, including big bus routes, community shuttles, recreational routes, and Stagecoach services between West Marin and communities along US-101.
Historical Routes and Vehicles
Prior to Marin Transit operating routes full time with its own livery, Golden Gate Transit operated routes in Marin County on behalf of the Marin County Transit District, using Golden Gate's vehicles and operators. Numerous local routes have been retained, but most have been transferred to other contractors than Golden Gate Transit. Some routes and vehicles that have disappeared from Marin Transit's network include:
Routes: 9, 33, 37, 45, 49K, 51, 52, 53, 55, 57, 59, 62, 222, and 259
Vehicles: New Flyer D60LF, Orion V, TMC-RTS (30- and 40-footer)
Current Routes and Vehicles
Marin Transit now operates as a standalone agency, with four different contractors operating multiple route types:
Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District: for Routes 23, 23X, 29, 35, 36, 71, and 71X. It also operates Route 25, the Larkspur Ferry Shuttle, between Fairfax Manor and Larkspur Ferry Terminal via Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, in collaboration with Marin Transit.
Marin Airporter: for Routes 17, 17X, 22, 49, 219, 228, 233, 245, and 251.
MV Transportation: for Routes 61, 66, 66F, 68, 113, 115, 117, 122, 125, 139, 145, 151, and 154. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marin Transit operates temporary routes to supplement services provided by Golden Gate Transit and Marin Airporter using MV Transportation's vehicles and operators, including Routes 117, 122, 135, 145, and 171.
Whistlestop Wheels: for Marin Transit Connect and Paratransit services.
